Children in Indonesian Class

Indonesian is taught to students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Indonesian teachers use the Australian Curriculum: Languages content for Indonesian to inform the teaching and learning in this curriculum area. For the majority of learners, Indonesian is an additional language. For students learning Indonesian for the first time in a school language program, a key feature of learning the language is understanding the cultural dimension that shapes and is shaped by the language. The curriculum is designed with an intercultural language learning orientation to enable students to participate in intercultural experiences, develop new ways of perceiving and being in the world, and understand themselves in the process. All students from K-6 engage in 30 minutes a week (as a minimum requirement) in Indonesian learning experiences. Indonesian is reported on in both Semester 1 and 2 Student Reports.
