Sustainability

Chapman Primary School is a sustainable school which nurtures a love of learning and brings personal, social and environmental responsibility to our community. As students act for an environmentally sustainable future with opportunities for positive action, our school improves and protects the health and wellbeing of our children.

A Chapman Primary School Environmental Sustainability Action Plan has been developed to outline the roles and responsibilities for our school, students and staff to "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle and Feed the Worms".

Our year 1 students promote the use of waste free lunchboxes and encourage students to take food packaging home and collect food scraps for our composting and worm farm projects. Castings from our worm farm are used in our Sunlight Centre, our school garden which is managed by our year 3 Gardening Guru's, growing plants and vegies for the school. Our year 2  Water Warriors promote water wise concepts around the school. Our year 3 Enviro Squat work with our BSO to promote correct bin use and help keep our school clear of letter and partner the Cooleman Ridge Community Neighbourhood Farm planting seedlings. And our year 4 Power Rangers educate and remind our school community to reduce energy waste and promote riding and walking to school.

Our school Sustainability Coordinator oversees our sustainability management plan and mentors staff about our school sustainability practices.

Sustainability and caring for the environment are incorporated into each year level learning programs across all areas of learning throughout the year.
